What a podcast day
looks like in our studio.
Treated room, lighting already up, two or three cameras if you want them. Here is the day from load-in to upload, and the two ways to pay for it.
The room
Podcasts record in the Loft, our open production room. It is sound treated, which is the thing that separates a podcast that sounds like a podcast from one that sounds like a kitchen. Natural light with full blackout, house lighting with stands and modifiers already in the room, and an open floor you arrange however the show needs: two chairs and a table, a sofa, a standing set.
If you want a built set behind you instead, the Set House next door has four standing environments, including a 70s kitchen and a Victorian blue room, that double as podcast backdrops nobody else in the city has.
Bring your own crew, or book ours
Self-serve is the cheap route. Bring your microphones, recorder and cameras, set up on the house lights, and record. Most two-person shows are rolling within twenty minutes of walking in.
If you would rather not think about it, we run multi-camera podcast production out of this room: two or three cameras, lavalier or boom audio, the sync, the cleanup and the mix, and short clips cut for the feed. That is quoted as a production from $3,000, which for a weekly show usually covers a batch of episodes shot in one day.
A typical day, hour by hour
- 0:00 Load in. Parking is on site, the door code is on your phone.
- 0:20 Chairs, table and mics placed. House lights adjusted to the show's look.
- 0:30 to 3:30 Record. Three or four episodes is comfortable in a half day with short resets.
- 3:30 Pack down. Nothing to strike, the lights stay where they are.
- Afterwards If we captured it, you get the full episodes and the short clips within about a week.
What it costs
By the hour, the Loft is $45 and is booked by you on Peerspace, instantly, no form. A weekly show is better off on membership: the Creator plan is $250 a month for up to four hours a day in the Loft, which pays for itself before the sixth hour. The math is on the membership versus hourly guide, and the plans are on the rates and membership page.
